Jeff Gancarz is this month's Upstate Face

Jeffry Gancarz has been a member of SUNY Upstate Medical University for approximately twelve years. He began his career at Upstate as a nurse and is currently a member of Peri-Operative Administration as a Purchasing Assistant for O.R. Materials Management. Jeff, along with his colleagues, is responsible for servicing the 5th floor operating rooms and the 3N Golisano Children’s Surgery Center by procuring supplies, equipment and services needed in the operating rooms. Along with procuring and replacing materials for the O.R., Jeff also works with outside suppliers/vendors and the Lawson inventory system, which integrates the functions of requisitioning, purchasing, receiving and inventory control to ensure supplies, materials and equipment are accessible in a timely and cost-effective manner.

When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Jeff eagerly replied, “the openness and camaraderie of the entire staff in O.R. Materials Management makes for a great work environment.” He greatly appreciates the team effort of his colleagues and feels fortunate to have a great manager that provides them with guidance, but job autonomy at the same time.

Outside of work, Jeff is a proud father of two; his daughter Amy, who received her PhD in behavioral neuro-science and neuro-psychology, and his son Eric, who is getting married in September, is a firefighter. He enjoys spending time with his family and partaking in outdoor activities with his girlfriend, Kathy. As an avid golfer, Jeff has been known to play 45 holes of golf in a day during the summer months and partakes in 4-5 golf tournaments a year. He is a die hard Red Sox fan and recently purchased a boat that he named Happy “Ours” and looks forward to enjoying the summer. Jeff enjoys the outdoors very much, but when asked what he wants people know about him, he replied: “I volunteer for the Camillus Fire Service as an Assistant Fire Chief, as well as teach juvenile fire safety to the youth in our community.”

Jeff, thank you for 12 years of service at SUNY Upstate Medical University and for your commitment and dedication to O.R. Materials Management, Upstate and our community. As described by one of your fellow colleagues you are “a solid force for the department who consistently provides great customer service.”
