January 2008—Jeff Hamlin
Jeff Hamlin began his IT career at Upstate in 1999. As a Network Support Specialist in IMT- Network Services, Jeff is a member of the team that is responsible for Upstate’s data (computer) network infrastructure. This includes the physical connections for all computer devices on the campus as well as 30 remote sites, fiber optic backbone, switches, routers, gateways, firewalls, remote access and connectivity to the Internet. On a day-to-day basis, Jeff connects the Upstate staff to the computer network, troubleshoots end user connectivity problems, installs network switches, servers routers, wireless access points and other networking devices that need to be placed on the network infrastructure. When asked what he likes most about his job, Jeff replied, “First off, I love most of the people that I work with, secondly the creative license and trust that I am afforded by the people I work for.”
Outside of work, Jeff enjoys listening to high quality recordings of just about any genre and spending relaxing days on the C.N.Y. Canal system in his boat the "Lazy Daze". In addition, he enjoys working with his hands and being the proud “Poppy” of two beautiful granddaughters - Kayla and Hailey.
When asked what Jeff wants people to know about him, he replied, “I hate bees. I love living in the country. Technology is cool. Global warming is not. I am crazy about my wife, Ann, three fantastic children, two extraordinary son-in-laws and two amazing granddaughters. They fill me with enormous pride. I consider myself to be a most fortunate person to be blessed with such amazing family and friends.”
Jeff, we thank you and the team in Network Services for the critical work you perform in ensuring Upstate’s network stays connected! In addition, your own upbeat personality and great customer service skills are greatly appreciated by all of your customers. Keep up the great work and thank you for your many contributions to Upstate!
