Upstate Gamma Knife Center
One Step Closer To Perfexion:
Radiosurgery's Gold Standard has gone Platinum
The Gamma Knife Perfexion has the potential to treat a broader array of conditions because of the new unlimited cranial access.
About The Upstate Gamma Knife Center
University Hospital at Upstate Medical University is the only hospital in Central New York to host the world's most sophisticated neurosurgical device: the Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion™. The Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion™ has taken minimally invasive neurosurgery to a completely new level of sophistication and effectiveness while maintaining full clinical compatibility with previously successful procedures and protocols. In addition, by optimizing the system's robotic component, treatment times have been shortened dramatically.
The Leksell Gamma Knife® is not a knife in the normal sense of the word. No incisions are needed. Instead, 192 very precisely focused beams of radiation are directed to the treatment area in the brain. Gamma Knife® Surgery offers a safe and effective treatment for more than 30,000 patients every year world-wide. The treatment procedure is simple, straightforward and relatively painless.
The new Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ system is able to provide leading-edge treatment for multiple metastatic tumors in a single treatment session. Patients will benefit from the Perfexion's improved dose delivery and from the new instrument's improved comfort features.
