I believe the child is the center of our care.  In my field, I provide intensive care along a continuum of healthcare for those children and families who are recovering from a significant operative procedure or traumatic event and for those children and families who may be facing end-of-life decision making. 

Family members and guardians are to be supported, well-informed, and engaged within our healthcare team.  In critical care, I lead a team that incorporates all professionals important to the health of the individual child.  This team includes the critical care pediatric medical students, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, child life specialists, case managers, social workers, therapists, and chaplains.  This team also commonly includes collaboration among consultants, specialists, primary care physicians, and school teachers. 

My philosophy in Pediatric Critical Care is to have the well-being of the child in the center of all decisions we make and to care for each child and family with dignity and respect during this time in critical care
