Biomedical Sciences Degree-Granting Programs
Admission Requirements
Candidates for admission are selected on the basis of their record and qualifications for independent scholarship in a specialized field of study.
All PhD applicants must have:
- Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0*
- Minimum combined GRE verbal and quantitative score of 1,000 or 295 in the 130-170 new score scales. Competitive applicants will have verbal and quantitative scores above 40th and 50th percentile, respectively.
The current class average for undergraduate GPA and combined GRE scores are above 3.66 and 311 respectively.
*Students from non-traditional undergraduate programs that do not provide a GPA are encouraged to apply.
Competitive applicants will have completed prior research experience and will have the following coursework**:
- Biology, 1 year
- Mathematics, 1 year
- Chemistry, 1 year
- Physics, 1 year
**It is expected that the GPA in the above courses will be at least 3.0 overall.
Selected applicants will be invited to visit SUNY Upstate to meet with faculty and students and view the campus, community, and the research facilities.
Application Deadlines
Doctoral and Masters Programs
There are no application deadlines for the Doctoral (PhD) and Masters of Science (MS) programs in the College of Graduate Studies. However, review of applications begins early December. For PhD applications, priority will be given to those applying before April 1st.
