Pediatric Emergency Department

University Hospital is the only hospital between Rochester and the Vermont border to have a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department.

The department provides evaluation and stabilization of children with a variety of medical problems including:

• burns
• poisoning
• trauma
• abuse

Board Certified Emergency Medicine pediatricians supervise the care of children, assisted by nurses and other specialists certified in pediatric emergency care.

Pediatric Emergency Care Network

Specialists in Emergency Medicine from University Hospital go on location to train paramedics, ambulance personnel, and emergency room staff at other hospitals within Central New York. The purpose of the training is to teach emergency response teams how to stabilize a seriously ill or traumatized child prior to transporting the patient to a hospital.
