Special Services

Pediatric Services here at University Hospital is truly one of the unique clinical services offered in all of Central New York. It is also the future site of the Golisano Children's Hospital (opening 2009) and offers the region's most advanced and comprehensive pediatric care.

Among its unique services are:

• Child Abuse Referral and Evaluation Clinic Program (CARE)
• Center for Children 's Cancer and Blood Disorders
• Pediatric Emergency Department
• Center for Children's Surgery
• Pediatric Designated AIDS Center
• Kids Now Off Therapy Clinic (KNOT)
• Psychiatry Clinic, Child and Adolescent
• Spina Bifida Clinic

It is also the only hospital where pediatric open-heart surgeries are performed, where previously inoperable brain tumors are treated via Gamma Knife radio-surgery and where kidney and pancreas transplantation is conducted. University Hospital's Department of Pediatrics is home to more than 50 pediatric sub-specialists, who recognize that "children are not just small adults", and collaborate with a highly sophisticated network of support staff to meet the unique medical, emotional and social needs of children.
