Neonatalogy refers to the care of ill newborns including premature infants. They are cared for in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). The Syracuse area has two major NICU facilities (Crouse Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital) staffed by specialists called neonatologists. Upstate's Community Campus has a normal newborn service also covered by these neonatologists.

The Golisano Childern's Hospital, the departments of pediatrics and surgery, and Pediatric Cardiology Associates are available to provide specialized services to these smallest of patients.

While many babies end up in the NICU shortly after birth on "short notice", neonatologists are available to see in consultation before your baby is born if a potential problem is recognized prior to delivery. Please visit the sites of these community partners for more information.
