General PediatricsThis is a 16 bed pediatric unit specializing in the care of children after surgery as well as being the referral unit for the 17 counties in Central New York. The staff is trained in the management of the acutely ill child with a variety of diagnosis such as Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Cardiac Defects as well as trauma.

Pediatric Intermediate Care UnitThe six bed Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit admits less critically-ill children than the PICU and also serves as a transition unit following a stay in intensive care. Staffed by the same nurses and physicians as the PICU, it is designed to ensure a smooth transition to the general Pediatric Unit.

Pediatric Intensive Care UnitThe Frank Oski, MD Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is the only such facility in a 17-county referral area, caring for infants, children, and adolescents requiring intensive care. Children spend time in the PICU for a variety of reasons. Some come through the Emergency Department: some come for monitoring after open heart or other surgery; and some from other hospitals to receive the specialized pediatric care for which University Hospital is recognized.

For a referral to the Center, please speak to your pediatritian. Pediatric Transport ProgramIt is sometimes necessary to transport critically ill or injured children from other hospitals to University Hospital to receive advanced medical and nursing care. During the transportation process a life-threatening condition could become more serious if the proper precautions are not taken. The service is staffed and coordinated by pediatric intensivists and nurses who specialize in pediatric intensive care and have additional training in transport medicine.
