International Applicants

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Training Program here at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.

Like most of the other Pediatric Residency Programs across the country, we only accept first year residency applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) External link. You can find more out about ERAS through their web site. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) External link. We are always interested in receiving applications from qualified International Medical Graduates. We are specifically looking for those who either completed their clinical training in the US or who have recent post-graduate training in pediatrics in their own country. Clinical U.S. experience is required. We will only consider first attempt passes on all USMLE exams. We must inform you we only sponsor our foreign medical graduates on the J-1 visa (no H-1 visas—no exceptions). In addition, we are only able to consider applicants willing to complete three full three years of training in our program. After we receive your completed application through ERAS, we will contact you about the possibility of setting up an interview.

As of August 2013, we have set up a new pediatric observership program for visiting physicians. You can read more about this program and how to apply on our web site.
