The Office of Financial Aid provides financial assistance to students whose personal and family resources are not adequate to cover the expenses involved in attending SUNY Upstate Medical University. Financial assistance is provided through loans, grants, scholarships, and student employment.

The Office of Financial Aid is committed to:

  • Assisting students and families in the achievement of their postsecondary educational goals by making every effort to remove financial barriers.
  • Providing financial assistance to all eligible students who qualify based on the availability of funds and demonstrated financial need.
  • Providing access to financial resources in a fair, sensitive and confidential manner.
  • Inform and educate students and their families about their financial options in an accurate, equitable and timely manner while complying with federal, state and institutional guidelines and regulations.

We understand that applying for financial aid might seem a little bit overwhelming, especially if this is the first time you have ever applied. We want to make the financing phase of your educational experience as stress-free as possible by assisting you every step of the way so that you can concentrate on succeeding in your medical studies. Therefore, we encourage you to meet individually with a Financial Aid Advisor in the Financial Aid Office. We will explain what financial aid programs are available, walk you through the application process, and answer all of your questions. We can be reached at 315-551-2057 or email [email protected]. We look forward to meeting you and helping you to take advantage of all the assistance available to you.

This website will also help you learn more. The pages listed below and in the left-column menu will provide you with a wealth of information about financial aid programs, explain the application process, and describe your rights and responsibilities. You can follow the easy instructions to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. There are also some very useful tools to help students learn how to manage their personal budgets and finances.
