The EMS & Disaster Medicine Fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University is one of the very first ACGME-Accreditted programs and offers a wide range of clinical, research and administrative opportunities. Our fellowship includes both ground and air medical transport training with a variety of different agencies. The University operates an Air Medical program in cooperation with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. Five of our faculty members have completed EMS Fellowship training and the CNY Regional Medical Director is also a member of the faculty. The faculty have varied areas of focus allowing the fellows to explore different facets of out of hospital care.

As a member of the Physician Response Team, the fellows will have the opportunity to interact with multiple Fire and EMS agencies during MCIs and other challenging calls. The fellows will work directly with SUNY Upstate faculty to prepare for all types of prehospital scenarios, including training to provide important field surgical techniques.

Unique elective opportunities exist for those who are interested. We offer an optional international component through our department's missions in several locations across the globe, including St. Lucia, China, India and Australia. Some of our special event / mass gathering sites include the Great New York State Fair, Ironman Syracuse, Syracuse University Carrier Dome and the K-Rockathon. Our EMSTAT Center houses a state of the art simulation center and our own paramedic training program.

Salary is competitive and additional benefits include access to a response car, tuition to educational courses, national and local meetings, books and equipment.
