Core Facility for DNA Sequencing

DNA Sequencing

The SUNY Upstate Medical University has established a Core Facility for DNA Sequencing as a service for our research investigators. Located in Room 4840 on the 4th floor of University Hospital, this facility provides automated DNA sequencing of single stranded and double stranded DNA samples from purified plasmids and PCR products on a fee for service basis.

Samples are sequenced using the BIG DYE Terminator Version 3.1 Cycle Sequencing Kit from Applied Biosystems and are run on an ABI 3130XL Genetic Analyzer. This automated sequencer uses a four color fluorescent dye system and typically provides from 600-1000 bases of usable sequence data per reaction. One reaction consists of one DNA template (customer supplied plasmid DNA or PCR product) being sequenced with either one customer supplied primer or with one of the 12 stock primers supplied by the core facility at no additional charge. Our stock primers include M13 forward, M13 reverse, T3 Promoter, T7 Promoter, T7 Terminator, SP6 Promoter, SP6 Upstream, BGH Reverse, PGEX3', PGEX5', EGFP-C, and EGFP-N. Our typical turn-around time is one working day after receipt of the samples. Our facility is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for your convenience.
