Tax Credit for Education

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 created several programs that reduce income tax liability for students and parents who are paying for college.

Of special importance to students at SUNY Upstate Medical University are the:

• HOPE Scholarship
• Lifetime Learning tax credit
• Student Loan interest deduction
