Repayment of Federal and State Aid if your enrollment changes

Eligibility

To be eligible for student aid, you must

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (for Federal aid programs)
  • Be a New York State resident (for state programs)
  • Not be in default on a student loan or owe a refund on a Federal grant
  • Demonstrate compliance with any applicable Selective Service Requirement
  • Be enrolled in an eligible degree program and maintain good academic standing
  • Use your financial aid funds only for education related expenses
  • Be registered at least half-time for most programs
  • Repay all loans and applicable interest.

Financial aid eligibility is the difference between the cost of education and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is calculated using a formula enacted by the Congress. Cost of education includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses.

Important facts to remember when applying for aid

  • Less than full time status may affect financial aid eligibility
  • If you have federal student aid, and receive additional financial aid from other sources, please inform us. The total amount of aid you receive from all sources cannot be greater than your eligibility for aid. If this occurs, and you are receiving federal student aid, an adjustment in your financial aid may be required.
