  • RUTGERS CENTER OF ALCOHOL STUDIES SCAIFE FAMILY FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS are available for medical students enrolled in medical schools in the U.S. to attend the one-week Institute of Alcohol and Drug Studies (July 13 - 18, 2008) (deadline June 18) or the one-week School of Alcohol and Drug Studies (July 20 – July 25, 2008) (deadline June 25).   • ANNENBERG PHYSICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM IN ADDICTIONS This program places medical students at addiction treatment centers around the country for four weeks usually during the summer between their first and second year of medical school (between May and August).   • AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (AMA) MEDICAL STUDENT SECTION (MSS) presents two excellent opportunities for medical students interested in health care policy:
    • Government Relations Internship Program (GRIP) provides stipends to assist students selected for the six to eight-week summer health policy internships in the Washington, DC area.   • SPECIAL OLYMPICS HEALTHY ATHLETES HEALTH PROFESSIONS STUDENT GRANT “to promote short-term student-designed, student-led projects with a focus on the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes programs and Special Olympics athletes as well as the health and well-being of all persons with intellectual disabilities.” Information available at http://www.specialolympics.org/studentgrants Applications are accepted year-round. Students who are interested in funding for summer projects should submit a proposal by the end of February to ensure that our review process, IRB approval, and contract signing don't interfere with an early summer start, however there is no hard and fast deadline.

  • ST. GEORGE'S UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Prague Selective
    Subject: Introduction and Exploration of Issues in Clinical Medicine
    Location: Prague, Czech Republic, as well as other Czech cities (Pilsen, Brno)
    Eligibility: Students from all semesters are eligible, but exposure to basic physical diagnosis and pathology is an asset. The selective is geared towards first and second year students.
    Goal: The aim of the Selective is to enhance and broaden the thinking process of future physicians at a crucial stage in their development by coming to understand that the practice of medicine hinges on a correct thinking process which takes place against a background of societal expectations and experiences.

  • CLINICAL TROPICAL MEDICINE AND TRAVELER'S HEALTH West Virginia University. A diploma course accredited by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
