Susan B. Stearns PhD Scholarship for Community Engagement

The Stearns Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded annually to an Upstate Medical University College of Medicine student currently in his/her second year. Students who have distinguished themselves as leaders and volunteers while at Upstate will be considered for this award. Alyson Weiner and Matthew Wiese Upstate medical students Alyson Weiner and Matthew Wiese came up with the idea for a one-day student volunteer blitz and turned it into a reality. SUNY Upstate Medical Student Volunteer Day involved 150 students and faculty, numerous businesses and physicians as sponsors, and nine volunteer sites. "We’re going to be here for four years of med school," Alyson said. "It’s a great opportunity to engage the community."
