
SACON Meeting, January 29th, 2003 at 3:00 PM, CON Room 301
SACON called to order by Tish McNally, Co-president, with introduction of officers,
Kristin Seeley, VP and Margaret Wells, Advisor,
at 3:30 PM, Room 301, CON.
Atendance: Kristi Springall, Mona Metz, Sharon Wynn, Patti Maslak, Gemma
Lawrence Atkins.
A. OLD BUSINESS
- FUNDRAISING: Purpose to raise and maintain funds in SACON GSC account
for December Grad Recognition Reception, NYSNA Legislative Workshop Attendence,
Summit Conference Honorarium Fees, Annual SACON Scholarship Award, and general
expenses.
- Long Sleeved T Shirt and Sweatshirt Fundraiser successful and calls
for more T shirt and sweatshirts AND tote bags to become available for those
students that didn't get a chance to buy. Long T shirt= $14; Sweatshirts=$35;
Short T shirt and totes = price to be determined but not much.
- GIFT BASKET DRAWING: Theater tickets, restaurant certificates, wine,
bookstore certificates during month of MARCH. 6tickets=$5, 1 ticket= $1. Any
and everyone sell as many as possible.
- CANDY SALES: Candy bars= $1.00 each. before, during, after classes.
Other health professions disciplines have had success.
- CHUCK SIMPSON: Advisor GSC indicates no restrictions.
B. COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
- Canned food drive for downtown mission appreciated by them (November/December)
- Health Fair: Sponsored by UGSC and GSC in November at Carousal Mall.
- NEXT YEAR: May be sponsor a family through DSS for Christmas.
C. BOOKSWAP
Real helpful to some people. Take advantage of this easy way to save some bucks.
Post your book needs or books to loan/swap on the Bulletin
Board or check the book table, back hallway, 3rd floor, CON (College of
Nursing).

COMING TOGETHER FOR NURSING
A dozen organizations holding
their annual conferences under one roof!
SACON and UPSTATE CON participating.
SACON sponsoring Cindy Wojtecki, RN as luncheon address speaker.
Honorarium = $300
Suggested we find out if SACON will
introduce her by Margaret Wells.
Huge opportunity for SUNY Upstate, CON to become more visible, especially
now that SU's program is dissolved. Barbara
Black, CON faculty, 464-3905, is the "go to" person for
more information or to get on the mailing list for this conference

E. NYSNA Legislative Workshop, March 9th & 10th, Albany, NY
Another great conference that several upstate nursing students plan to attend
(Becky, Tish, Sharon, Gemma, Patti). Unfortunately, no SACON funds available
yet for partial scholarship but miracles have been known to happen. For more
info, go to- www.nysna.org.
Crown plaza room discount, $114 double occupancy, til 2/17/03. Non-NYSNA member
cost, 2 day registration, $185. Discussion of NYSNA membership and cost ($265/yr).
Local district #4 chapter dues = $35 (tax deductible).
F. FACULTY-STUDENT FORUM
March 26th meeting: Opportunity to speak directly with faculty and peers regarding
questions, concerns, suggestions for curriculum, scheduling, obstacles to classes
or learning, good things you've found or like, etc. Time and location to be
announced. REFRESHMENTS SERVED.
G. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Decision made to post any nominations for SACON officers on this Bulletin Board.
Open officers posts are: TREASURER, GSC REPRESENTATIVES (5), FACULTY CURRICULUM
REP (2-4). Please consider volunteering for a position or nominating someone
who is willing/able. We will voice vote approval for ALL nominations at the
MARCH 26th faculty/student forum.
- GSC REPS: Attend Q.O. Wed, 6:00 PM, dinner served. Take turns with
other reps and officers.
-STUDENT REP to Curriculum Meeting: One Friday am. per month. Take turns.
Meet with Margaret Wells prior for guidance.
