MS—Unique Education Minor for Certificate
The College of Nursing offers students in the master’s program an option to minor in Education to prepare for a role as a nurse educator. Students who complete the minor receive a certificate at graduation. This ninecredit minor includes three courses:
- Nurse as Educator (required of all bachelor’s and master’s students)
- Curriculum and Program Development
- Educational Evaluation.
(In Educational Evaluation, students work with a preceptor to gain experience in the role of educator.)
All courses for the Education Minor may be completed in two semesters. A minimum of 6 credits must be taken at SUNY Upstate.

Director of Master's Program
After becoming an RN with an associate’s degree, Ibrahim Thabet said, “I felt that my journey was not complete. I decided to continue my education at Upstate Medical University because of the school's rich tradition of prestige.
I could not have imagined an easier transition.” Ibrahim achieved his goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner by earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Nursing.
