Pharmacy
The pharmacy provides cost-effective, quality pharmaceutical services to all departments and patients of the hospital. Daily operations include preparing and delivering all medication to nursing units and ancillary areas, providing total parenteral nutrition services, and chemotherapy services.
Clinical pharmacy services include antibiotic dosing and review per protocols, drug therapy monitoring, drug-use evaluations, education of health care professionals, and training for Doctor of Pharmacy students from several academic institutions.
In September 2008, the pharmacy celebrated its grand opening after undergoing major renovations. The new facility now offers a state-of-the-art clean room for sterile processing of intravenous medications, a high performance "robot" for patient-specific barcoded medication dispensing, and unit-based automated dispensing cabinets for floor stock medications.
The new automoted pharmacy robot, named "RxD2," is a key component of the pharmacy. It tracks and manages unit-dose inventory and accurately and effectively dispenses medications to all patients.
The pharmacy staff, with the help of state-of-the-art automation, work together with the patient, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to achieve positive patient outcomes.
