Principles of Epidemiology
This course introduces the basic principles and methods of epidemiology as applied to public health problems. The focus of this course is on epidemiologic measures and study designs. Topics covered in this course include disease transmission, morbidity and mortality, surveillance, screening, descriptive and analytic study designs, bias, measures of association, causation, and ethical and professional issues in epidemiology. The application of epidemiology for the evaluation of health services and screening programs and the influence of epidemiology on public policy will be presented.
