CBHX 2409 Research and Social Change: Campaign for Deaf Access to Health Care
Students will work with an interdisciplinary team (law, sociology, health humanities) on an ongoing research and outreach project to improve communication access for deaf patients in health care. Students will be introduced to the principles of social action research, qualitative research methods, narrative medicine, disability, and Deaf culture through readings, lectures, and discussions. Through an individually designed program, students will write a research paper and may participate in interviews with health care providers, conduct community outreach, and/or organize a community forum, all with the goal of developing a better understanding of communication with deaf patients in health care and how to improve access.
