Patients and Hospital Visitors

University Hospital is a busy place!

More than 300,000 people are treated every year at the hospital and its ambulatory sites. These pages are designed to help you find your way through our patient care complex.

University Hospital, the heart of Upstate’s patient care services.
750 East Adams Street

The 350-bed hospital and Level-1 Trauma Center contains:

  • Adult and Pediatric Emergency departments
  • Clark Burn Center
  • Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders
  • Designated AIDS Center
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Operating Rooms
  • Most inpatient services and many outpatient services

A six-story expansion – which will house the Golisano Children’s Hospital and floors dedicated to neuroscience, oncology and cardiovascular services – is scheduled to open in 2009.
Parking for hospital visitors is available in the new garage across the street from the hospital entrance. An enclosed bridge/walkway connects the new two-story hospital lobby to the parking garage.

No Smoking

For everyone’s health, there is no smoking anywhere on the grounds. University Hospital/SUNY Upstate Medical University has been completely smoke-free since August 2005.

Visitor Passes

For your safety, all patients and visitors must sign in and receive a pass for the day. A driver’s license or other photo ID is required. If you need to see registration, you will get a pass when you register.

FastPas patients get passes at the FastPas desk in the main lobby.

Our uniformed Ambassadors greet visitors and provide visitor passes every day from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Ambassadors are available to help you with your luggage and/or wheelchair; escort you through the hospital; provide parking and hospital information; and assist with hotel accommodations, transportation, e-mail and regular mail, flowers, restaurants, notary public and security.

  • The Regional Oncology Center (ROC)
    Located next to University Hospital, ROC, offers outpatient services to patients with cancer and blood-related diseases. The ROC has its own parking area (“E” lot) outside the entrance.
  • University Health Care Center (UHCC),
    90 Presidential Plaza, is
    University Hospital’s primary outpatient medical office. UHCC includes:

    • Enhance Services
    • Fine Needle Aspiration/ Cytology

  • Central New York Gamma Knife Center, adjacent to University Hospital, is the dedicated radiosurgery center for treatment of neurosurgical disorders.
  • The Institute for Human Performance (IHP),

    Houses patient care services including the Bariatric Surgery, Imaging Services (MRI), physical therapy and the Vitality, Concussion Management, and Cardiac Rehabilitation programs. The IHP track, pool, and exercise and evaluation equipment are available for patient use. See page 5 for information on research at the IHP.
